5 Dublin Culture Night Musts

By Meg Walker
15th Sep 2014

1 Take a tour

Whether it’s music, the arts, history, museums or architecture that takes your fancy, one of the many walking – and other – tours on offer will surely fill you with insight, info, and no doubt a bit of inspiration. Booking essential for most. Most unusual? A tour of the infamous Windmill Lane Recording Studios, and the Tour de Culture Night Bike Tour.

2 Let’s dance

Fancy taking a few creative steps? Various taster classes and workshops abound on Culture Night. Our faves? Check out the Dublin School of Flamenco, below, Dance Ireland and Dance Theatre of Ireland’s offerings.

3 Catch a film

Filmbase, the UCD Student Centre Cinema and the Light House Cinema are all hosting screenings. Our pick of the bunch? The first drive-in movie night in Smithfield courtesy of The Complex. Catch classic 1986 film The Mission (starring Robert De Niro, below, Jeremy Irons, Liam Neeson and Aidan Quinn) from the comfort of your driver’s seat at 8pm (car park open from 7pm). Admission is free, so get there before the slots fill up.

4 For the kids

Families will delight in the Gaiety School of Acting’s drama workshops at Temple Bar’s Smock Alley, The Ark’s guided tour and ceramics demonstration (booking essential), and Sweny’s Pharmacy’s reading of James Joyce’s The Cat and the Devil for children at 5pm.

5 On the wall

Our art exhibit must-sees include Dorothy Cross? View at the Kerlin; fashion designer Paul Costelloe and his sons? works, below, at Sol Art; Eva Rothschild at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; and works by Irish artist Isabel Nolan, Brazilian artist H?lio Oiticica, and the David Kronn Collection, all at IMMA.
