The Bastille Deal

The Bastille Deal

Bastille Day celebrations hit Dublin with lots of exciting gourmet events taking place in the run-up to the big day on Monday?

We love les fran?ais for millions of reasons, even if we don’t admit it. Yes, we may grumble at their rudeness in Paris restaurants, complain about Riviera prices – but, honestly, whether it’s the fashion, the caf? culture, the food, the wine, St Tropez or Proust, we all love at least one of the things the French gifted to the world. But because when you think ?French?, the first thing that comes to mind is food, Dublin restaurateurs are preparing some seriously exciting events. Here’s our calendar for the week?

The Ireland France Chamber of Commerce are hosting their annual Bastille celebration with a five-course gastronomic extravaganza at Chez Max, Baggot Street, tomorrow, July 10. Four celebrity chefs – Camden Kitchen‘s Padraic Hayden, S?bastien Masi of Pearl and Locks brasseries, Georgina Campbell Chef of the Year 2014, Stephen McAllister, and Chez Max’s own Richard Reau ??along with a sommelier will cater to your culinary and oenological desires on the night. Book your tickets here.

If you want to learn more about Gallic food and wine (read ?eat, drink, laugh?) from a French expert, French Foodie in Dublin has just the tour for you. There will be a festive one on Saturday, July 12, for people who’d like to celebrate Bastille Day early.

On Sunday July 13, Chez Max are organising a DJ-ed barbecue-style dinner on their three terraces at the Baggot Street restaurant. The 2013 menu included magret of duck and confit of red onions, so we’re dying to see what they have in store for us this year.

On Sunday July 13 and B-Day itself, Monday July 14, francophiles in Dublin are invited to take the party outside on the beautiful terrace of Brasserie Le Pont, and feast on a delicious Bastille Day lunch menu, featuring moules marini’re and Belle de Morteau saucissons, roast leg of spring lamb with proven?al stuffing followed by a sabayon de Champagne. D?licieux!
For a chance to dig into this delicious offer for free, the restaurant is holding a little competition?here.

French food celebrations continue in Medley (Andrew Rudd‘s eatery on Drury Street) right through to Wednesday July 16, with a six-course French tasting menu including?soupe – l’oignon and coq-au-vin, all topped off with maple?tarte tatin served with a vanilla pastis ice cream.?Sounds good? It gets better: you can have all that for free, for you and a friend, by entering the restaurant’s?competition here. Bon app?tit!

And, if you still have the energy after all those baguettes, fromages, madeleines and Calvados, finish it all off with a proper French f?te at the Grand Social.

If you’re celebrating at home, French it your way with this delicious Mediterranean fish recipe, parfait with a citrusy Languedoc blanc. As for dessert, how do macarons aux wild sloe gin sound to you? The correct response is: ?J?adore!?
