7 Ways to Update Your Lips for Autumn

Autumn is the perfect opportunity to freshen up your make-up bag, as we find ourselves filled with that old ‘back to school’ feeling – only this time we’ve no hideous uniforms to grapple with. With the air turning ever so slightly colder, it’s time to ditch the summery stuff and add some luxury to our morning ritual. While there are lots of treats in store for A/W 14, what easier way to update your look than with a quick flash of colour across your smackers?

Whether you’re after intense colour or rich, velvety textures, we’ve gathered up a few of our autumnal favourites below, all of which are available in Brown Thomas.

Yves Saint Laurent hit three birds with one stone here. Vernis – L?vres Glossy Stain gives you the benefits of a gloss, stain and lipstick in one prettily packaged wand. With 27 stunning shades from ‘3 brown’ to ’29 Rose Fourreau’, you’ll be spoiled for choice. €33.

Giorgio Armani have come across with three limited-edition shades for A/W14. Inspired by the latest Armani Priv?, these shades will require a little bit of confidence – this one’s quite dark – but for a touch of old Hollywood glamour, these make for a nice departure from the pinks and peaches of summer. €25.50.

We’re big fans of matte lipsticks here at IMAGE.ie and these ones from NARS deliver bright, bold colour with the added luxury of wild mango butter and vitamin E. We love the super-rich Mascate red as well the more demure pink Bangkok. €26.

Granted, red can really work all year round, provided it’s a shade that suits your skin and is applied to perfection, but it’s perfect for adding some much needed heat to your look come autumn. Rihanna’s teamed up with MAC for the aptly named Viva Glam Rihanna Lipstick. This one has a blueish-red hue and retails at €19.50. Bargain!

From Cosmic Lily above to Wine, these limited-edition Bobbi Brown lipsticks are inspired by the late L’Wren Scott and make the ideal addition to your seasonal make-up bag. They promise intense long-stay colour with a soft matte finish and lots of nourishment for your lips, thanks to their mixture of vitamin E and C as well as beeswax. €29.

Lastly, we look to the ultimate in luxury lipsticks, Tom Ford. While all of the shades featured above have been more obviously autumnal, it goes without saying that a warm pinkish shade won’t be misplaced as the season starts to change. Whether you apply a pink blush to the apples of your cheeks or opt for the very luscious Chastity or Ravenous lipsticks from Ford’s Lip Colour Shine collection, you’ll feel as though your face has instantly warmed. €44.

What colours will you be wearing this autumn?
