Best Beauty Looks From The BAFTAs

Best Beauty Looks From The BAFTAs

The best thing about the BAFTA television awards is that its red carpet is a little bit more normal than most. For instance, there is a distinct lack of the butt cutouts we witnessed at last week’s Met Gala. (Check out our analysis of that shindig here.) However, the worst thing about the BAFTAs is that its red carpet is a little bit more normal than most.

Nonetheless, while the small screen stars of the posh other channels may not have pulled a Kim Kardashian/Jennifer Lopez/Beyonc?, they do scrub up well. And they may even have secured a place on our wedding guest mood boards, especially when it comes to make-up and hair.

Here are some of the beauty looks we rated from last night’s ceremony.

Tallulah Riley, the former wife of Elon Musk, seems to be returning to the limelight. A fact of which we are delighted. Riley’s acting talent was apparent from some of her earliest roles on shows like Marple and in the Keira Knightley starring Pride and Prejudice. We love her side-swept brunette locks and how her stained lips do all the talking. Minimalist old-school glamour at its finest.

We love Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry, even if she’s said some non-feminist stuff in the past about feminists in general. That’s the power of a good lemon drizzle; it can forgive a multitude of flaws. How amazing did she look last night with those rocks around her neck? Bow down before the real people’s queen.

Emma Willis? orange lip was the beauty look of the night for us. It was a red carpet risk that she pulled off and drew attention to those arresting green eyes of hers. All hail the short hair heroine.

When you have hair as stunning as Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson, all you need to do is show up, in our opinion. The red-haired actress let those distinctive locks do all the talking while she worked flushed cheeks, a barely pink lip, and some fabulous under-eye make-up.

Another Poldark actress, another solid red carpet appearance. Icelandic actress Heida Reed joined Emma Willis with a Look Here pout, and not much else. Reed let her flawless skin shine, thus presenting a great looking argument against contour sets. (Also, shouldn’t her and Felicity Jones play sisters?)

Vicky McClure was another attendee who made cropped hair look amazing. Are you tempted to go for such a dramatic chop?

Downton Abbey’s Sophie McShera taught us that when it comes to late afternoon lighting, sometimes less is more/the sanest looking option. Also, good monochrome.

We are not fans of Rosie Fortescue’s dress. It’s a little bit wannabe Met Gala. We do, however, love the braid.

Keeley Hawes isn’t one to rock the dramatic make-up boat, but she always looks healthy and beautiful, hence her making the list. Also, we love this sassy Edwardian widow look she’s running with.

Anna Friel’s choppy tousled lob is what we aim for every Saturday night before we abandon the GHD for Prosecco. The CD stuck to her back? Not so much.
