The Best in Blemish Busters

The Best in Blemish Busters

Whether it’s a lone pimple or a monthly hormonal breakout, you’re a lucky woman if your face has never been sullied by a spot. More and more of us are suddenly battling breakouts as we hit our 30s and beyond. Unfortunately, lots of products for spotty skin are still targeted at teens, and can aggravate and dry out older skin.

That’s why we’re so excited about Clinique’s new Anti-Blemish Brush Head for the sonic cleansing brush they launched last year. Dermatologist-developed for?blemish-prone skin, this is even softer and more gentle than the original brush head. Use it with their anti-blemish sonic cleanser after make-up removal, for best effect.

La Roche Posay is another brand that’s especially kind to skin. Frequently recommended by dermatologists, their Effaclar range is brilliant for banishing breakouts. The standout product? Effaclar Duo +, which was reformulated last year to target blemishes, clogged pores and excess sebum, as well as reducing red marks.

It might be depressingly named, but the SkinCeuticals Blemish + Age range is a great pick if you’re spot prone and in your 30s (meet your sister). Featuring a salicylic cleansing gel and toner – both with exfoliating acids to declog pores – the range also includes a powerful anti-aging serum which targets spots, hyperpigmentation and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

A good clay mask can also play its part in the battle against blemishes. The Trilogy Mineral Radiance Mask is suitable for all skin types (apply it more regularly if you’re oily, less often if you’re dry) and takes a two-prong approach: kaolin clay deep cleanses and draws out impurities, while Organic Rosehip & evening primrose oils hydrate and nourish the skin.

Give any new skincare products at least a six week trial to determine if they’re working – many of us give up before they’ve had a sporting chance to do their thing. And if you’re using something that you’d really recommend, please share it in the comments!
