Would You Burn Split Ends?

Would You Burn Split Ends?

The latest beauty treatment from Brazil sounds scary, delivers awesome tresses?

There’s more to Brazil than supermodel Gisele Bundchen and a disappointing football team – the South American nation is one of the most adventurous places when it comes to salon treatments, and the recent World Cup has seen this part of the world rushing to learn the beauty secrets of the country unofficially known as Victoria’s Secret Finishing School.

While most articles of the early 21st century were obsessed with the Brazilian wax and their keratin straightening procedure, the ladies of the Copacabana seem to be pioneering yet another treatment that will take salons by storms.

Velaterapia, or candle cutting, is the slighty scary sounding hair treatment where sections of your hair are separated, twisted and then run through an open candle flame. The heat burns away split ends and makes the hair more open to nutrients and receptive to conditioner treatments – this ?cauterises? the hair. Velaterapia is hailed for it’s anti-frizz effects and is excellent for dry and damaged hair wrecked by years of styling and is already a New York favourite thanks to the endorsements of models such as Barbara Fialho and Alessandra Ambrosia, frequent customers of Maria Bonita salon.

The great thing about velaterapia is that next time the hairdresser tells you that those untidy ends need to go you can just hand her a candle and wait for some international lingerie supermodel hair.

Would you trust an open flame to treat split ends?
