4 Best Street Food Spots

4 Best Street Food Spots

Dublin may not be able to compete with New York or London on the hip food-truck front (yet), but we’re building up a burgeoning kerb-side dining scene says Lizzie Gore-Grimes.

Basil
As a native Ringsender it’s great to see the area’s food offering on the up with the arrival of the brilliant Artisan Parlour and a swanky new fit-out for Clyne’s butchers next door – and now we can boast about Basil. A funky pavement pizza joint serving up delicious wood-fired pizzas, made with their own homemade dough and slow roasted tomato sauce. The coffee is in the hands of an experienced barista and is smooth as they come, just like the eatery’s owner, Basil Whelan, who you’ll spot immediately as the well-built lad ??who interestingly also works security for a certain very famous musical bunch of lads – follow @basilpizzabasil to find out more?

K Chido Mexico
Theresa and Gustavo Hern?ndez’s Mexican food truck, located just off Dublin’s Chancery Street serves up delicious, authentic Mexican street food. Parked in the entrance of Fegans Foodservice warehouse, they have created a clever and comfy space around the truck for diners, with colourful, cushioned pallet furniture setting the Mexican mood. Firing out traditional classics such as pulled pork tacos, nachos and tortas from Monday to Friday and transforming into a Mexican Bruncheria at the weekend, this is a top spot for all taquito fans out there. @kchidomexico

Say fish
When Dave first launched his Say Fish market stall he had an exciting menu with offered the likes of clams and mussels and squid with chorizo but he soon discovered that the Irish, for an island nation, are bizarrely squeamish when it comes to fish. So while he couldn’t keep up with fish and chip orders, the clams were ignored. So he switched things round to focus on fish and chips – but done well. The fish is sustainable, the crumbs are Panko, the chips are hand-cut, skin-on (sprinkled with seaweed salt) and the sauces and dips are his own: lemon cajun, tartare and garlic mayo. If the King Prawns are on the menu, snap them up. Catch Say Fish at Village Markets across the city. @say_fish

Burger Republic
If you’re going to a music festival this summer, keep an eye out for Paul Catterson’s brushed steel Airstream Burger Republic bus. It’s hard to miss. Paul has years of restaurant experience behind him and it shows in his burgers which are made from 100% Irish prime beef and dressed with their own homemade sauces and salsas. The Cashel Blue is devilishly good if you have the appetite for it and their slow cooked balsamic onion relish is top notch. Catch them at Village Markets across the city. @inmeatwetrust
