Anne Hathaway Talks Fame

Anne Hathaway on the cover of Elle magazine.

Despite never being out of work since her teen debut in the beloved Princess Diaries film series and an Oscar on the mantelpiece, actress Anne Hathaway is candid when it comes to talking about the pitfalls of fame. She covers?the November issue of Elle this month – see above for sexy suit action – and inside speaks to the magazine about how fame has had?a negative effect on her life. “This fame thing? Fucked me up for a really long time,” she reveals.

In the interview the?Dark Knight Rises actress describes how the onslaught of papparazzi overwhelmed her at first and that people would advise her to keep being herself. As Hollywood’s newest ingenue she would reply to such well-intentioned words of wisdom with a ?But I don’t know who that is yet!”

Now she seems like a woman at peace with her life, having married Adam Shulman in 2012 and taking increasing amounts of time away from the limelight. The 31-year-old actress took a career break after her Oscar win for?Les Mis?rables in 2013 and even referred to the love-hate relationship she has with the public in an interview with the?Huffington Post. “My impression is that people needed a break from me,” she joked.

Hathaway’s take on critics is also cucumber cool now, she tells Elle,

“I’ve realized that don’t need validation from anybody. At all,” she says. “I’m not sitting here now worrying, ‘What do you think of me?’ With all due respect, you seem like a lovely lady, but I don’t need you, or anyone else, to like me. And that’s so liberating. It’s a big reveal, man.”

Hathaway’s next movie is the sci-fi epic?Interstellar opposite Matthew McConaughey. With Christopher Nolan at the helm expect a lot of buzz around this one, and maybe even another statuette for Anne.
