British Academy TV Awards Nominations

Perennial award shows nominee Benedict Cumberbatch has been nominated for a British Academy Television Award for his role in Sherlock for the third year running. The nominations for the awards, which reward the very best in television broadcast on British screens in 2014, were announced this morning with Happy Valley, Marvellous, The Missing and Line Of Duty leading the pack with three each.

There’s plenty of love for the Irish contingent as Jimmy Nesbitt(The Missing) and Stephen Rea(The Honourable Woman) are up for the Leading Actor and Supporting Actor awards respectively. Chris O’Dowd’s Moone Boy is nominated for Best Scripted Comedy, everyone’s favourite grandmother Brendan O’Carroll is in the running for Best Male Performance in a Comedy for his role in Mrs Brown’s Boys and Corkonian Graham Norton is not only the hosting the ceremony but BBC One’s The Graham Norton Show is nominated for best Entertainment Performance. Song For A Raggy Boy director Aisling Walsh’s A Poet In New York is in the running for best Single Drama also.

Following its win in 2014, Netflix receives two nominations in the International category for Orange is the New Black and House of Cards. They are joined by More4’s The Good Wife and Sky Atlantic’s True Detective.

This year’s ceremony will be held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London on Sunday 10 May.
