Fourteen-Year-Old Amy Winehouse Already Had Masterful Vocal Skills

Amy, the documentary on the life and death of singer Amy Winehouse, is released this week and if the clip below is anything to go by, it promises to be a hauntingly poignant watch. The home video shows a fourteen-year-old Amy singing happy birthday to her friend and her trademark powerful but sultry vocal skills are already evident in the teenager.

Watch the video:

The film is released almost exactly four years are the sudden death of the singer from alcohol poisoning on July 23rd 2011, aged twenty-seven. Known for her eclectic mix of musical genres and beautifully emotive voice, Winehouse was considered one of the best vocal talents of her generation. She attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts in Croydon (alongside classmate Adele) and her debut album Frank was an instant hit, as was her second Back to Black. However her reputation took a number of hits as she cancelled last minute on performances and was widely slammed for those she did appear for, forgetting song lyrics and stumbling onstage.

But her phenomenal talents could never be in doubt, here she is singing the original demo for “Love is a Losing Game” before it ended up on Back to Black.
