It looks like we don’t need to wait for a special occasion anymore to break out the bottle of champagne. According to a study carried out by The University of Reading, drinking 1-3 glasses of champers per week can actually significantly reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s, as well as boost brain power – we’ll drink to that.

Scientists who carried out the research have discovered that champagne carries special molecules (called phenolic compounds) that can improve spatial memory; which is an incredibly important part of the brain that is responsible for storing memory and new information. The discovery comes as a shock considering the irony that most of us forget what we’ve done the night after a few too many. In layman’s terms, the compounds found in Champagne have the ability to favourably alter proteins in the brain that are linked to memory.
