Making Space is the innovative little space launched by Orlaith Ross inside brand-new coffee shop Kaph at 31 Drury Street. Offering a space for artists to both work and interface with the public, it brings together the functional pleasure of drinking coffee with the more abstract pleasure of art appreciation – with the added bonus of having the artist present.
The space will be offering four illustrators a residency in the loft above the café, showcasing them to a public that may not know them, and giving them a chance to produce art that can be sold for anything from €10 upwards. Orlaith’s hopes are that people will pop out for a coffee and pick up a piece of artwork while they’re at it.
Illustrator Steve McCarthy, whose work (and person) are pictured above, took up his residency last week and is to be followed by Chris Judge, Fatti Burke, and Fuchsia Macaree, making it 4 artists in 4 months. Steve will be exhibiting his first body of work tomorrow with beats provided by Lil Dave and Tiger Beer a-flowing.
The exhibition is tomorrow from 6-9pm. For more info see here.
