Thank You Netflix: The New Creepy Series We Can’t Wait For

Within the first 20 seconds, you know David Fincher’s new Netflix show is all about the dark side. And is there anything quite as creepy as a series which aims to delve into the minds of serial killers? From the look of the trailer alone, we’re going with no. Fincher is a master when it comes to suspense and surprise horror twists – his body of work includes Seven, Zodiac and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – so his new series Mindhunter continues into that uneasy territory. And we’ve a feeling, despite the dark subject matter, we’ll be adding this to our binge-watch lists.

Produced by Charlize Theron, the series follows Agent Ford (played by Jonathan Groff) as he and a colleague interview imprisoned psychopaths and let cops in on their findings. This is termed criminal profiling but back then – in the 1970s – the terminology’didn’t exist. ?Based on the 1997 crime classic by John Douglas – one of the first FBI profilers in the US whom the Silence of the Lambs? Agent Jack Crawford was based – the series explores beginnings of what became criminal profiling and the lengths those profilers went to understand their subjects.

Fincher is an expert when it comes to making ordinary seem terrifying.?The first glimpse of the series is unsettling without much being said at all; the sound of a tired 1970s fax machine spooling out a grainy black-and-white image – of what you’re not quite sure until the second before the camera moves away – and a cool, collected voice saying that what he did was hard in a way people “didn’t realise.”

Creepy in the way that Hannibal was creepy? We’re calling it.

Mindhunter premieres on Netflix on October 13th
