The Bafta Nominations Are Here

bafta nominations

Awards season season! The Bafta nominations were announced this morning, and while the Golden Globes is the show with the flowing bar and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler ripping into George Clooney, the British ceremony is all about the gravitas, and a surefire indicator of who the Oscar ends up going to.

This year sees all the amazing female performances that got you visiting cinemas honoured, and the best actress category is just too close to call. Rosamund Pike stunned audiences as Amy Dunne is the universally acclaimed Gone Girl and Reese Witherspoon’s performance in the hotly anticipated Wild is being tipped as the one that might swipe the plaque.

Felicity Jones is up for her part in The Theory of Everything, the Stephen Hawking biopic in which she plays the cosmologist’s wife Jane. If you haven’t seen this film clear out tonight’s schedule and be ready to cry. Julianne Moore is nominated for her part in Alzheimer’s drama Still Alice, while Amy Adams keeps collecting award nominations. This time it’s for Big Eyes.

Best actor is a bit of a brit fest, with Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) and Bemedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) up against Ralph Fiennes for his par in the delightful The Grand Budapest Hotel.
