The Best of Robin Williams

We remember Robin Williams’ comic genius and his incredible talent in this round-up of his best roles…

Good Will Hunting
Robin Williams stole the show in the critically acclaimed drama with this monologue on life and real love. Here he schools the young Matt Damon on what really matters and secures himself the Best Supporting Actor Oscar while he’s at it, “But I bet you can’t tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel.”

Oscar Acceptance Speech in 1998
“Thank you, Ben and Matt. I still want to see some I.D. Thank you, Gus Van Sant for being so subtle you’re almost subliminal. I want to thank the cast and crew, especially the people of South Boston — you’re a can of corn, you’re the best. I want to thank the Mishpachah Weinstein — Mazel Tov! And I want to thank Marsha for being the woman who lights my soul on fire every morning. God bless you. And most of all, I want to thank my father, up there — the man who, when I said I wanted to be an actor, he said, ‘Wonderful, just have a backup profession like welding.’”

Dead Poets Society
As John Keating he played the English teacher we all yearned for. “Listen, you hear it? Carpe – hear it? – Carpe, carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary”

Williams’ bombastic presence lit up the Disney smash. Last night the Academy Awards simply tweeted “Genie, you’re free.” in reference to this fantastic man and actor.

Inside the Actors Sudio
While this show can easily be acres of actorly naval gazing, Williams looked back on his career with a knowing glint in his eye. Watch below to see his quickfire interview answers.

Mork and Mindy
As the alien from the planet Ork living on earth, his turn in the sitcom won him the heart of millions. This scene of Mork explaining love will melt you heart, “Love doesn’t make sense, that’s why earthlings think it’s so wonderful!”

The loss of Williams is exacerberated by the fact his movies dominated our childhood. His role in Spielberg’s revisionist Peter Pan movie, Hook, wore out many an Irish VHS.

Mrs Doubtfire
And finally, the best of a lot of bests. Rest in peace Robin.
