There’s nothing we love more than seeing a well-known face match up with some of our foodie faves (check out our feature on Bear – rugby star Jamie Heaslip’s collaboration with Jo’Burger), so this latest offering is right up our street. Model Daniella Moyles has teamed up with Yogism in George’s Street Arcade to create the city’s most exciting new pop-up café, TBC (The Breakfast Club). Launched less than two weeks ago, it serves fabulously nutritious breakfast alternatives plus a range of superfood smoothies and juices. Not only does the grub have some serious health benefits, it’s also delicious and served all day, so being healthy doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your sleep-in! We caught up with Daniella to get the full skinny on starting a superfood sensation …

Hi, Daniella! Congrats on the opening of TBC. Tell us, what makes it different from any other café in Dublin? TBC is the type of café I was searching for in Dublin but could never find. There are tons of spots to get a great fry-up or a big stack of buttermilk pancakes, but some days you just want a tasty, filling, healthy alternative. We only stock whole- or superfoods, fresh seasonal fruit and herbs, and use no refined sweeteners or filler products. Our menu is entirely homemade and freshly prepared to order, with a focus on nutritionally balanced dishes and ingredients with real health benefits.

Where did the idea for TBC come from? The concept stemmed from not being able to find on sale the types of dishes I could prepare in my own kitchen. Myself and Stephen O’Dwyer (Yogism) really found common ground in this idea and it grew legs pretty quickly when we put our heads together.

Why do you think there is such a demand for healthy alternatives to the traditional greasy spoon lately? People are getting educated about their diets and what they put into their bodies. The food industry is full of smoke and mirrors and misinformation – for profit. You could eat a three-course meal, leave lethargic with a full belly, and still be starved at a cellular level. The days of thinking some lettuce leaves were the only options you had for a healthy diet are finished. There’s now a whole world of choice and taste that can be delivered with all the nutrition needed to fuel you, and keep you healthy and happy.

Where does your passion for food stem from? I really enjoy eating, finding a new restaurant or café, a new dish to tell people about or try my hand at. My dad is a chef also, so I’ve grown up with a broader awareness of food because of that.

Finally, what’s your personal favourite dish on the menu? There are only five plates, all purposely chosen and put together, so I feel a little too involved to pick. I love the banana and pecan bread with Greek yoghurt because it’s completely sugar and grain-free, but so full of taste and deliciously moist. The buckwheat pancakes are a favourite also – they’re really hearty, which isn’t generally a word associated with healthfoods. See, it’s too difficult for me to choose … but whichever dish you pick, try our green smoothie with it!
