Merrion Square will come alive this Sunday with a vibrant street carnival bursting with street theatre, music, aerial performances, workshops, crafts, Irish language activities and more. Enter a world of fantasy at Merrion Square and take part in sword fighting and monster making, where Dublin UNESCO City of Literature’s Citywide read ?Knights of the Borrowed Dark? comes to life in a Georgian House. Make a kite in the Science Foundation Ireland Science Zone and unwind with yoga storytelling in the park with Yo-Yo Yoga. Get back to nature in the wooded area with Upon a Tree or have fun and be inspired by workshops with ReCreate. Events kick off 12PM and this is a perfect way to spend an afternoon with children. This Ain’t No Disco is a new Irish music programme which contains performance, collaboration and conversation hosted by Donal Dineen and directed by Myles O?Reilly. Taking place in the lively atmosphere of The Sugar Club on Dublin’s Leeson Street, expect plenty of new Irish music to pop up along the way as they track down and chat with musicians in Dublin and those now living in New York. St. Patrick’s Cathedral Dublin will set the scene for the breathtaking performance of Music for 18 Machines – a reimagining of Steve Reich’s minimalist classic Music for 18 Musicians. Simply put it employs synthesisers in the places of musicians to voice the original work. Reich’s work is a blueprint for the minimalist movement – an exploration of pattern and process. Music for 18 Machines reverses this process in a search to elicit as expressive and emotive performance from 18 electronic instruments being played by a single computer.?On the night the music will be performed by Simon Cullen, Neil O’Connor, Glenn Keating and Liam Caffrey.

Expert caller Jerry O?Reilly will lead you through c?il? classics such as the Siege of Ennis, Shoe the Donkey and the Stack of Barley, demonstrated by the dancers of Brooks Academy, with world-class accompaniment from the Matt Cunningham Band. The Devane Family, musicians and sean-n’s dancers from Connemara, will also feature, marvel at this exquisite art form as they showcase their creative footwork.
