The Hennessy Literary Awards honour established Irish literary greats while also commending those who are starting out in the industry. Guests who gathered in the luxurious Ailesbury Road residence of the French Ambassador Her Excellency Emmanuelle d’Achon were treated to cocktails (Hennessy, of course), delicious canap’s including bruschetta with plum tomato, parma ham and Parmesan, Irish crab with spring pea and garden mint, and a decadent chocolate tart with cappuccino cream. RT’s John Kelly served as MC for the evening, while Tara Quirke joined him onstage to read excerpts of the winning entries including Ruth Quinlan, author of The Healing (First Fiction); Jessica Traynor for her two poems, ?Aubade? and ?eBay Auction for Antique Jewellery? (Emerging Poetry); and John O’Donnell for his short story, Shelley (Emerging Fiction). David McWiliams was also there with his Dalkey Book Festival Hat on, no doubt scouting talent for it with his wife SIan Smyth.
