The Gaze, These Days…

To celebrate the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s (IMMA) newest exhibition, Cloud Illusions I Recall, we joined the art crowd in the New Galleries out at Kilmainham. The show looks at how the cinematic eye has changed artistic expression and the viewer’s perspective. It is an easily enjoyed show featuring a principal Ed Ruscha piece, a collection of Peter Doig’s ?Studio Film Club? posters, delicate portraits from the 1860s by Lady Clementine Hawarden hung alongside a small Cindy Sherman that will surely draw the crowds and a screening of Michael Powel’s emotionally framed and technically skilled classic film? The Red Shoes. When the opening wrapped we all headed off to The Oak to discuss matters over a pint or two.
