Last night saw Peter O’Brien’s Autumn Winter 2015 showcase take place in Arnotts. As ever, it was a packed out event with the store floor full of people excited to see the designer’s latest sartorial musings. It seemed as though everyone who was invited was in attendance not only for the love of the clothes but also the love of the man.

Peter O’Brien is one of those designers who invokes a huge loyalty amongst both the fashion fraternity and his customers alike. And for good reason – his designs are purely sublime. His tailoring, the fabrics chosen, his colour palette are all an example of elegantly good judgement. Women want to wear his clothes, and that is the bottom line – we all want to be a Peter O’Brien woman wearing a trapeze style coat with a silk pleated skirt.

After the show, the rails were bombarded by the audience and after less than twenty minutes, most of the sizes were gone!

O’Brien’s A/W 2015 vision is that of elegant refinement with more than a dash of his unique flair. Last nights’ show was one of his best in this writers’ opinion – there were no low points, nothing mundane. His coats, skirts, and three- quarter length trousers are impeccable, as are the perfectly tailored cropped tops with buttons down the back. Culottes sat with flowing silk pleated skirts, and for the first time we saw an optimistic pop of yellow in the otherwise trademark muted palette the designer prefers.

The event is consistently a high point in the Irish fashion calendar.

The man is a jewel in the crown.
