Eva Mendes Talks New Mom Woes

Eva Mendes, actress and new mom, has given her first post-baby interview with Violet Grey, wherein she explains just how she managed to elude the dreaded celebrity bump watch that defines the existence of many a famous lady – see Kate Middleton every time she steps into the daylight.

Mendes, 40, and her boyfriend Ryan Gosling, 34, welcomed their daughter?Esmeralda Amada Gosling to the world last September and that was the last the world heard from them until yesterday. Mendes posed for the beauty site while offering them glimpses into her recently changed life. For someone who has been off the radar for the past year, she was open and brimming with insights into motherhood and life with Gosling. She even explained how they jointly decided on a name for their daughter, “We both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel? The Hunchback of Notre Dame and just think it’s a beautiful name. Her middle is Amada, which was my grandmother’s name. It means ‘beloved’ in Spanish.”

While the couple have been successfully camera shy the past few months, Mendes knows that the paparazzi can’t be kept from her child’s life forever, “Whether we like it or not, privacy is going to be very difficult for Esmeralda. I think it’s unfair but that’s our reality.” This reality is what led to her and Ryan deciding that?Esmeralda’s first few months would be free from any kind of media hassle.

As for the media’s obsession with pregnant?female?celebrities, Mendes did not want to?engage with that industry, “I find the media’s ‘bump watch’ obsession to be both intrusive and stressful. So I made a decision to eject myself from it completely. I was like, ‘Annnnd I’m out.'” However, as bad as mothers have it, Mendes thinks??it’s way harder to be a baby. Everything is a struggle for her. For instance, I haven’t thrown up since the €90s and she’s thrown up twice since we started this interview. Motherhood is cake compared to what it’s like to be a baby.?

And outside of avoiding intrusive camera lens, how has motherhood been treating the actress??”I’m completely exhausted. I thought my wild nights were over but these are some of the wildest nights I’ve ever had,” she says. Mendes and Gosling are parenting sans nanny at the moment, getting help from their extended families. We wish them both some peaceful nights over the holidays.
