Apparently Bras Make Our Breasts Lazy

Apparently Bras Make Our Breasts Lazy

Breasts. They never get a break, do they? Despite dealing with mammary glands ever since we broke away from the monkeys, society is still in a stupor over how to treat the body parts. This week’s issue isn’t to do with breastfeeding mothers or Instagram’s stance against female nipples. Nope, we’re back to basics and talking bras. Because apparently a new study is not feeling them and says that wearing bras are bad for our health.

A French university has found that wearing a bra makes breasts saggier, Good Housekeeping reports, because all that delightful padded support makes the tissue in your breasts lazy and discourages the growth of stronger discouraging tissue.

Women. We really do not get a break from the criticism.

A sports medicine specialist from the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire in Besancon, Jean-Denis Rouillon, has tracked 330 women’s chest from 1997 and says that ?Medically, physiologically, anatomically – breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra.? Older women, Rouillon warned, shouldn’t throw their bras away, as it’s too late for their breasts to start developing the muscles for natural perkiness. Younger women though have nothing to lose, and Rouillon advises against ever starting on the push-up journey. (Can you imagine never having a first bra-fitting story? Never knowing the mortification of popping into rural drapers and being handed a limp Sloggi by the woman who helps your mother picks out curtains?)

While we do love that part of evening when our breasts are finally free, and the loungewear is on, we think we might keep our M&S brassieres on for the 9-to-5 existence because nipples and Irish weather make for an awkward lack of eye contact.

What do you make of this latest study? Will you ditch the bra to build some intimate muscle tone?
