The Best Holiday Wear To Buy Now

Screen Shot 2016-06-15 at 10.20.47

My favourite piece of beachwear is a bikini I bought in Topshop. A random buy, it’s seen me through ten seasons so far, and will probably last a couple more, or until I decide to park the two-pieces and opt for a more demure swimsuit – whichever comes first. Our summers may be short-lived, the amount of sunshine sporadic, but it’s still worth investing the time, and sometimes money, in finding those pieces that will make you feel fabulous not just for one season, but for several. Here are five gorgeous and practical pieces to put your money on this summer.

Finery London has just launched its first capsule holiday collection, which includes this gorgeous abstract-print swimsuit. It has adjustable back ties as well as removable bust padding.

Former Vogue contributing editor Pippa Holt has launched a line of beautiful handmade kaftans (see the July issue of IMAGE for a full interview with the celebrity stylist turned designer and discover her holiday hero pieces). Each one is handmade in a remote village in Mexico and takes one month to finish – hence the considerable price tag – but they can be worn on city breaks, layered over shirts and trousers, as well as worn on the beach.

Pippa Holt Kaftans start at €700 at matchesfashion.com and net-a-porter.com (from the end of June)

I love this raffia-effect beach bag from Truss. Although it has a traditionally woven look, it is actually made of polypropylene, so conveniently waterproof. It also has protective feet to prevent wet sand and general dirt and grit sticking to the bottom. Beautiful and practical.

Triptych woven raffia-effect tote, Truss, €209 at net-a-porter.com

These embellished flip flops straddle that line between beachy and city appropriate. A great multi-functional buy.

Rockstud sandals, Valentino, €210 at Brown Thomas

A long silk dress is a holiday staple. It can be accessorised beautifully for evening wear, and will work really well with a pair of Grecian-style sandals when you’re sightseeing on a city break. If you want a really luxurious holiday look, throw this silk dress over a bikini for the beach.
