Six Fashion Collaborations For A Good Cause Worth Investing In

Fashion is a kinetic force like no other. It’s controversial, dynamic, unconventional, and incredibly powerful. No more is a t-shirt ‘just a t-shirt’: it’s a form of self-expression that makes you stop and think;?igniting our internal?cogs into motion, sparking conversation. And isn’t that what it’s all about; initiating conversation and action for equality? I think so. With that, here are six determined fashion collaborations worth investing in that are making a positive change.

Dior And Rihanna For??The Clara Lionel Foundation

The last year has arguably been the fashion industries most lucrative when it comes to female empowerment. There was a brief moment of panic when political fashion made its first big dominant appearance on the catwalks last Septemeber because there was an underlying fear that this would simply be another ?trend? that would come and go. But people loved it, embraced it, ?and continue to support it.

Undoubtedly,?Maria Grazia Chiuri‘s “we should all be feminists” t-shirt for?Dior?was one of the most talked-about of the season.?Inspired by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s essay and TED talk of the same name, Dior stated a percentage of the sale proceeds will go to Rihanna’s non-profit organisation The Clara Lionel Foundation; which’supports people across the globe through investment in innovative local projects and advocacy.

The shirt – which retails around €590 – has been so popular, in fact, that the House has redone the print for the second time. It’s currently only available in selected boutiques, or available by request from the Dior website.

Uterus Prime For?The Abortion Rights Campaign

Following the colossal success of Anna Cosgraves ‘Repeal’ jumper campaign, the activist has opened the floor to other creatives wanting to express their views in a way that best represents them. Dublin-based architect and artist Rae Moore created?Uterus Prime;?a new feminist superhero who is raising funds for the Abortion Rights Campaign.?A new batch of the jumpers went on sale today at 8AM, and considering?the first edition garments sold out in 36 hours, we don’t suspect they’ll be around for long.

Jumpers will be available is sizes XS-XL, and will cost €35 -?excluding postage and packaging – with all proceeds going to the Abortion Rights Campaign. Rae Moore?is the recipient of several awards including the Irish Design Institute Emerging Talent Award 2017.

ASAP Rocky for Under Armour

This is a no ordinary music artist collaboration. As part of a multiplatform deal that was?announced on Twitter,?rapper?ASAP Rocky will work with Under Armour on?his own line of clothing under the premium Under Armour Sportswear. More importantly though, Under Armour will support Asap Rocky’s?philanthropic endeavours, like renovating and launch community centres designed to serve at-risk youth.

The rapper – whose real name is??Rakim Mayers – currently works in disadvantaged areas of?Baltimore, Los Angeles, and New York. Speaking about the upcoming project, ASAP knows the importance of creativity and believes that children need more creative outlets as they grow and develop. “I grew up in Harlem and had limited resources to channel my inner-creativity, so I spent too much time on the streets when I should have been more productive,” the rapper said in a statement.

There’s no immediate release date, but we’ll be keeping our eyes on UnderArmour.com

Folkster For D?nit

Irish store Folkster – the creation of wild child Blanaid Hennessey – is a favourite of ours: not just because they’re selection and style is a delicate blend of modern sophistication, glamour, and price point, but because they truly care for the well-being of women around the world. This ‘Feminist As Fuck’ white cotton shirt is the result of a genius collab between the store and the wonderful Irish charity?@dinit.ie, – who provide menstrual product supplies to women in crisis and conflict zones. For every shirt sold (at €39), €5 is donated to D?nit.
It’s a great initiative, it’s a great shirt, and we all should be?#feministasfuck. Our digital director Ellie Balfe recently invested in one and look how cool she makes it look. get shopping, people!

The Fmly Store For Mothers2Mothers

Photo: thefmlystore.com

If you’ve never come across thefmlystore.com the premise is in the name: it’s a retail space for the whole family – created by a very lovely family in Bruton, England. The brand’s ethos is charming (As is the family themselves). One of our favourite things about them, though, is their #GoodTees collection which is a select line of t-shirts and sweatshirts that?not only look good and feel good, but they support really good causes. So far, #GoodTees has raised more than €300K?Women for Women UK, Kids Charity, Help Refugees, The Refugee Council, Starlight UK, Yazda, Save The Children and Mothers 2 Mothers. ?We love this “We Are All Wonder Women” t-shirt which supports?Mothers2Mothers – which helps to?train, employ, and empower mothers living with HIV to bring health and hope to other mothers, their families, and communities.
