VIDEO: How To Toughen Up Florals

VIDEO: How To Toughen Up Florals

There are other ways to wear florals than sporting a pretty sundress. If, like me, you prefer a more urban take on this trend, begin by choosing a piece anchored in a dark colourway. A backdrop of earthy green, navy or?black will dilute down the prettiness of a ditsy print. Also, opting for something urban or slightly boyish like a jumpsuit or tailored trousers rather than a floaty skirt reimagines florals in an unexpected way. To firm up this street-wear vibe, throw on something utilitarian with your floral print, such as a sweatshirt. Sweatshirts are?unfussy and?a less obvious partner to pretty prints and?botanical blooms. Adding a touch of hardware, such as studded detailing or a chain link handbag, will toughen up your look further. To add another point of difference to your outfit, try injecting a quirky motif. Again, it will help to detract from the traditionally “romantic” associations of florals by adding a touch of whimsy. Click on the link below to see how I styled up a fabulous floral jumpsuit.

Jumpsuit, €196 (reduced from €245); sweatshirt, €90 (reduced from €150): both Maje at Brown Thomas. Studded sliders, €18 (reduced from €43) at River Island.
