How To Wear This Very Particular Perfect Shade Of Pink

How To Wear This Very Particular Perfect Shade Of Pink

From Wes Anderson movies and nail art to graffiti, music videos and interior design, there is no escaping the “it” colour of the year, despite its somewhat off-putting title. Here is how to embrace and wear millennial pink, even if you’re not one.

Pink is my thing.

I wear pink when I’m feeling down. I eat those pink Mikado biscuits with my tea – you know the ones with the fluffy bits? My decor is pink. My trainers are pink. My hair has been pink (and will be soon again). I’m well-versed in the world of pink – from bubblegums to French – but when the term “millennial pink” was tossed at me recently I was a taken back. What the hell is millennial pink? All I had to do was a quick search on Instagram to see what the fuss was about.

Yes, millennial pink is a real thing, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. The term ‘millennial’ hasn’t been hugely well-received?in the past due to the negative connotations often associated with it (many see us, the millennials, as the leeches of the 21st Century). This fun shade of pink, however, has helped to define a generation.

Also known as Scandi Pink, rose quartz and Tumblr pink, the colour of the moment is a soft, muted shade of pink with the blue notes taken out and is a refreshing addition to summer wardrobes and interiors.

Here are 4 easy ways to add millennial pink* to your wardrobe this autumn.

*disclaimer: wearing millennial pink does not make you a millennial

Go Bold Or Go Subtle

“Pink is power” was a phrase spoken by Gucci creative director Michele Alessandro?at the Gucci Cruise Collection in Florence last week. Go bold by adding millennial pink and a second complementing shade of pink to show the world you’re committed to the cause. I love this dress and shoe combination: A-line dresses are the perfect shape for women on the go or chilled evenings out with friends and the ruffled sleeves are a fun and playful addition. These mules will keep you comfortable all day long too.

?If you’re not yet ready to go full-on millennial from head-to-toe, try adding subtle pink accents: it will break up your outfit nicely and will ease you into pink without going full-on Paris Hilton circa 2001. I love this shimmering delicate shawl from Uterque – perfect for chilly evenings or paired with denim. And this Pandora ring will catch the light perfectly.

Accessorise

Because of its bright allure, millennial pink mixes will with pretty much every other shade of pink; meaning there’s loads of room to experiment and explore when it comes to your pink colour combinations. Double, triple, and quadruple-up on pink with accessories for an alternative and eye-catching take on this year’s favourite shade. This buckle velvet belt from Mango ties in nicely with Charlotte Olympia‘s millennial pink perspex clutch and Skinnydip sunglasses. Because the belt is a darker shade, it breaks away from the brighter pinks and adds a second layer of texture.

Denim And Pink To Make Them Wink

Because blue denim is so last year. Alternatively, a denim jacket is a great investment no matter what time of the year it is, and a pink one is an even better investment. I particularly love this pink denim jacket from Zara because the shade is subtle enough to wear for occasions when I’m not feeling too pink (which is unlikely BTW).

?Go forth and be pink!
