THAT 70S STYLE

This month, we’re finding inspiration from Netflix’s latest hit series, The Get Down, and if the brilliantly formed storyline doesn’t pull you in, the fashion will. Set in New York in 1977, the musical drama chronicles the early days of hip-hop and the dying days of disco. The release of the series is perfectly in tune with this season’s 1970s trend, as seen on the catwalks of Saint Laurent, Altuzarra, Blumarine, and Ashish.

SHINE ON

Do you have a thing for all things expensive and sparkly? If so, you’ve got something in common with Beyonc?, Madonna and Michelle Obama. Fine Jewelry Couture: Contemporary Heirlooms (Thames & Hudson, approx €46.70, out September 29) features bespoke pieces commissioned for celebrities by more than 35 master jewellery designers. With more than 500 illustrations, the book is ideal for any fine jewellery aficionado.

THE FEMALE GAZE

While female artists have been creating art since the beginning of time, their work has not always been acknowledged as much as that of their male peers. A striking new exhibition at the St Croix Museum Poitiers in France traces the history of the women in art between the 17th and 18th centuries, including female painters as well as female muses. The exhibition, titled Beautiful by Day, Women Artists, Women Models, runs until October 9, grandpoitiers.fr

Now in its eighth year, OFFSET is one of the world’s leading creative, educational and design-based conferences, and ignites endless possibilities in the areas of graphic design, industrial design, visual arts, illustration, animation, fashion and film. ON A HIGH

Forget about scaling down your footwear – this season, it’s all about reaching new heights. While some catwalk looks can appear a bit extreme, platforms are more stable than you’d think and are certainly more comfortable than stilettos, thanks to their wide heel base and flat upper sole. In saying that, these Marc Jacobs beauties may be a bit much, even for us?
