The annual British Independent Film Awards took place yesterday, and the event was attended by many a celebrity, including Marion Cotillard, Carey Mulligan and Alicia Vikander, who all topped the style polls. New mum Carey Mulligan stole the show in a Gucci dress, closely followed by model-turned-actress Agyness Deyn sporting a dramatic strapless dress. French star Marion Cotillard looked a vision in (predictable) Dior, and our own Saoirse Ronan looked elegantly chic in a LBD. Asides from the fashion (more of which you can see in our gallery above), it was undoubtedly a big night for Irish film as stars such as Ronan, Brendan Gleeson and son Domhnall were honoured at the ceremony.

Domhnall Gleeson’s film Ex Machina claimed the title of Best British Independent Film while his dad Brendan was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his role as Inspector Steed in Suffragette. Ronan unsurprisingly took home the trophy for Best Actress for her performance in Brooklyn (which is sure to help her chances in the upcoming Oscars race), and the much-anticipated movie Room, directed by Lenny Abrahamson (coming to Irish cinemas in January 2016) won Best International Independent Film.

Olivia Colman also earned the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in The Lobster, which was shot in Kerry. The Irish film industry is going from strength to strength, and we hope that our homegrown talent continues to receive these tremendous accolades as award season continues.

Sold out!
