Swimwear 2016: Top 3 Trends To Watch Out For

See More Photos
To save you from being that one unlucky person who leaves their bikini and swimsuit shopping to the last minute – or in this writer’s case, the day before her September holiday – only to find that the shops are full of woolly hats and fleece-lined gloves, let us give you the most gentle of reminders that if it’s gorgeous swimwear that you’re after, you ought to get shopping now. Don’t forget, the fashion world is always one step ahead of you, preparing for the forthcoming season, and when it comes to wardrobe staples as important as your swimwear collection, you don’t want to get left behind. So though you might still be bracing yourself for this particularly chilly February, your blissful sun holiday awaits, as does your confidence-boosting, head-turning swimwear. This year, we’re told by the experts that there are three key trends to watch out for. Here we consult the help of Arnotts’ lingerie and hosiery buyer Rachelle Hanley who tells us what we need to know about the nautical look, the ‘Bali Babe’ and the swimwear brand you’ve long been wishing for, Gottex.

Nautical
“Nautical is going to be a huge trend for Swimwear in SS16.?Seafolly, Cleo and Huit are all embracing the nautical trend this season. What’s more, blue is a huge colour for the season, which is perfectly offset by contrasting reds and whites. Prints will be a big part of this trend too, taking the form of traditional stripes and polka dots, as well as the modern unexpected prints like parasols. This trend is classic and timeless in its styling and shapes, for example the red Huit swimsuit with its classic off-the-shoulder Bardot-style neckline is a look that would suit any woman, any age.”

Bali Babe
“Our Second trend is called Bali Babe, and is a strong bright print led trend. The key piece for this trend is the cover up, or Kaftan. Cover ups were the most popular swimwear item from SS15, so this is definitely an area we see getting even more popular for SS16. We have a new kaftan brand Bain de Nuit joining us this season. Their Kaftans are incredibly rich. They are heavily embellished and perfect to take you from the beach to the bar. Seafolly also has some kaftans this season; theirs have a more contemporary feel, and are embellished with pompoms and some even have an ombre tie-dye print. From a swimwear perspective, Huit have some great pieces with gorgeous exotic paisley print, as well as an acid bright tropical geometric print, while Gottex offer gorgeous wrap style swimsuits in bright prints that are incredibly flattering as well as being trend led.”

Gottex
“We’re really excited about the Gottex range this season. Every item is made with a sun protection filter to keep out the sun’s harmful UV rays and they also have a factor 50 protection level. They are chlorine resistant – music to the ears of anyone who’s had their favourite swimsuit lose its colour after a dip in the pool – and the high levels of lycra in the fabrics protect against chlorine and well as corrosive sea salt water.?The high elasticity of the fabric means they are really comfortable as well as keeping their shape over their lifetime. And they dry faster than their competitors as well as retaining less water. In short, Gottex is the dream.”
