Interiors Pinspiration: Celebrating ’70s Style

This week on Pinterest, we’ve been seeing the swinging ’70s (minus the swinging) through rose-tinted aviators…

The fashion world (including the team?at IMAGE.ie) has been fawning over 1970s style for’some time, celebrating the return of suede skirts and full flares with genuine zeal.?A similar?’70s revival has been seen in interiors, paying respect to the sense of freedom and fluidity characteristic of the decade described as “a pivot of change in world history”.

In?a nod to ’70s flexibility, designers have been experimenting with?bursts of campness – creating cool?communal areas perfect for partying in and adorning walls with?funky vintage artwork. Wallpapers are getting busier, you can’t move without encountering a’shag rug, and earthy colour palettes bolstered?by brave brights and rich gold accents are everywhere – conveniently well’suited to the last throes of autumn. And so to our favourite ’70s-style interior pins of this week…

70s Pins 01

Shot for Dwell magazine by photographer Robert Schlatter, this stylish sitting room demonstrates?a fun’modern’take on retro glamour – in fairness, nothing says ’70s like an orange armchair.

70s Pins 03

Trippy vintage artwork sourced from thrift shops and?hairpin-legged plant stands add endless ’70s allure to the envy-inducing living room?of designer and travel photographer Troy Litten, via Design Sponge.

70s Pins 02

Built in?1953 by modernist maestro Craig Ellwood, the?Bobertz residence?in San Diego has been painstakingly restored to all its former glory by its current owners. I’m a huge fan of this’measured yet marvellous living area design, especially the redwood panelling.
