Christmas at home: the tablescape pieces to make all the difference

Your Christmas table may have fewer people gathered around it this year, but it can still feel special with a gorgeous festive tablescape.

It’s hard to know what our Christmases will look like this year. Everyone has their fingers tightly crossed that at least small gatherings will be allowed, so family groups can gather, if not perhaps as in large parties as they normally would.

Whether you’re a seasoned Christmas host or are undertaking it for the first time, a few special pieces can make the table feel extra festive as everyone sits down for one of the best meals of the year. Here are some ideas for your tablescape.

Set of Two Colour Merging Candles, Industry & Co, €12

Candles are a must for setting a festive mood, and these ones made from clean-burning palm wax will subtly change colour as they burn. Group together as pared-back centrepiece, or spread them along the length of your table.

Woodland stag accent plate, €26.50, Signature Editions

These adorable accent plates would make your Christmas table feel instantly festive. Mix and match with other designs or buy a set for a co-ordinating look.

These glasses are completely adorable, and will add a bit of festive fun to your table with their sparkly exterior. Their elegant shape ensures they feel grown-up enough to sit with the rest of your carefully-decorated table, too.

Holly Jacquard Tablecloth, ZARA Home, €69.99

Even if you’re not a tablecloth person the rest of the year, a Christmas one is such an instant way to add that festive feeling. You can keep the rest of your table minimalist with just simple candles and glasses, and no one will complain about the lack of Christmas spirit.

Set of two Clara flared glasses, around €40, Rowen & Wren

If your party will be small this year, why not invest in some beautiful glasses for your Christmas cocktails? The elegant, slightly flared design of these ones will look gorgeous whether they’re on a table laden with food, or resting on the arm of a chair by the fire after dinner.

Red snowflake coasters, set of four, €7.50, Irish Design Shop

Not only will these coasters add a festive feel to your table, but they also slot together to create a 3D decoration, so they can be displayed all season long.

Magnetic dinner candle holder, Article, €32

A candle holder makes a wonderful centrepiece for a table, and this one cleverly allows you to move the candles into different positions. Add some seasonal foliage at the base, or leave it bare for a minimalist feel.

Vinter 2021 place mat, €1, Ikea

With a sweet Christmas tree design, these simple place mats are a nice way to inject a festive cheer to your table. A large rectangle shape, they’ll also protect your best tablecloth from the inevitable gravy drips and wine spills.
