Actress Ruby Rose Recounts Her Battle With Depression

Actress and androgynous style icon Ruby Rose is living her best life since her breakout role in Orange? Is The New Black; she’ll star in an upcoming film series, is the new face of Urban Decay and is starring in the spring campaign for Ralph Lauren’s Denim & Supply, but Rose has gone through some turbulent?times on her path to success. The actress slash model was reminded of her battle with depression on social media and took to Instagram in hopes of motivating fans going through similar struggles.

Taking the opportunity to share her experience, the actress posted a raw, inspiring message about her personal struggles with depression and the progress she’s made. Rose opened up about her life at the time of the tweet, revealing she had just left Australia and cancelled several professional commitments to move to Santa Monica for intensive?therapy. She wrote?an extended message?on Instagram:

A fan just tweeted this to me.. 3 years ago to the day. What a wake up call.. I’d be lying if I didn’t say it shook me up..to see it.. To be reminded.. This feeling, this moment.. When I posted this in relation to abruptly leaving Australia cancelling a string of shows and commitments.. I had hit a rock bottom.. I couldn’t find happiness anywhere except my dogs face and even that wasn’t enough. I thought I had failed at being a human being an adult. I didn’t know what to do so I left for America to work with trauma therapists and I spent pretty much all the money I had made in my life on an overpriced rehab and a lot of therapy. ( There are definitely other ways to do it ) … I slept on a blow up mattress when I got my first apartment in Santa Monica, I adopted a dog before I furnished my place .. My dog, Ru, had a bed before me… I don’t want to ramble on, I’m just feeling reflective because I chose to fight and I thought it meant I’d be able to live. I DIDNT think it meant I’d be able to live my dream. I DIDNT think it would result in this extraordinary life I get to be a part of now… It just makes me wonder how many others are days, hours, seconds away from realizing their worth.. Their potential.. And once the dark cloud is lifted will be truly happy and free.. #wealldeservetobehere #wealldeservetobehappy

Her positive words struck a chord with her fans, who responded to her candid message with empathy, solidarity, and immense appreciation – many also expressed their similar experiences and thanked the actress for her vulnerability and openness and the support it provided them.

Rose thanked all those who shared their experiences with her and took the opportunity to remind those battling depression and anxiety that no matter how dark things may seem, it is possible for the cloud to pass. Happiness is something that everyone should have in their lives, and Rose’s journey is a reminder that anything is possible in life; the only certainty is that nothing ever stays the same.
