Around the World in Foodie Blogs

Food blogs are one of our favourite places to get lost on the internet. Sometimes we decide to attempt an recipe when we’re inteh door from our commute, other times we just like to scroll and scroll until our tummy rumbles – remember ‘pinning’ ain’t dinner! Earlier this week we asked French Foodie in Dublin,?Image.ie Food Blog of the Year winner, what makes a food blog special and worthy of followers, and today we’re going global to have a gander at the biggest blogging names on the world stage.

Manger
Some people’s lives really are British Vogue shoots. This blog is one of French Foodie’s top picks and we can’t blame her. Mimi Thorisson blends her Hong Kong upbringing and her French heritage to make a blog that is constantly beautiful. Posts range from travelogues to recipes with anecdotes about her family interspersed with striking imagery – her husband is the photographer. Mimi’s book, A Kitchen in France, is out now.

A Girl Called Jack
Jack Monroe’s blog was one not started out of a passion for food, but out of frustration at how living on the poverty line is just accepted nowadays. Monroe turned to blogging after she couldn’t get flexible working hours to look after her young son. Her blog, A Girl Called Jack, was devoted to affordable recipes and lifestyle tips for people also struggling. Internet word of mouth ensued and now Monroe is one of England’s leading campaigners against food poverty. Jack Monroe is currently celebrating the release of her second cook book. That, my friends, is a success story.

David Lebovitz
An American Pastry Chef in Paris, basically. David Lebovitz was a pastry chef and food writer in California who found himself moving to Paris in the early noughties. He caught the bloggong boom shortly after and a book deal was born. If you’re an utter francophile you’re going to go crazy for his insider’s glimpse at the charming world of French gastronomie.

Eat Like a Girl
Niamh Shields is an Irish ex-pat – a County Waterford native no less – based in London and full-time food blogger. With a book under her apron, Shields approachable recipes and clear love for food has led to her packing in her office job to follow her passion. Eat Like a Girl also strays into travel writing with recent posts painting a Mediterranean jaunt that will make you thirst?for glugs of olive oil.

Smitten Kitchen
Normally we’d stray far and away from the phrase ‘food porn’ but this blog is indecently scrumptious. Deb Perelman is the eyes and baking hands behind this must-visit site and with recipe titles like ‘squash toast with ricotta and cider vinegar’ and ‘almond macaroon torte with chocolate frosting’, why are you still here?
