Researchers Have Pinpointed The ?Perfect? Breast Shape

Researchers Have Pinpointed The ?Perfect? Breast Shape

A team of experts recently went on a mission to determine what the ?perfect? breast should look like via the eyes of men and women. Now before we all jump on the outrage bandwagon – we know breasts are beautifully unique and come in all shapes and sizes and don’t need anyone to tell us otherwise – this research was undertaken for a very good cause.

According to a study published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, this was done to help plastic surgeons have a more consistent template not only for breast augmentation but also breast reductions and reconstruction after cancer. And if that doesn’t warrant such research, we don’t know what does.

British doctors surveyed 1,315 people (men, women, and plastic surgeons), asking them to look at photos of different breasts and pick the proportions they liked best. The winning ratio across all three groups was as follows: 45:55, as in 45% of breast tissue falls above the nipple line and 55% below. For point of reference, this is classified as a ?natural? shape, similar to the Venus de Milo.

The researchers explained their reasoning behind the study in more detail: ?Particularly in the United States in previous decades, plastic surgeons have used implants that were often round due to being filled with saline,? said Dr. Patrick Mallucci of The Cadogan Clinic and Dr. Olivier Branford of the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust. ?These inevitably gave an unnatural football-like or ?Baywatch? breast with overfilling of the top of the breast due to the implant shape and lack of understanding as to what to aim for.? Therefore, the results will help plastic surgeons have a more thorough understanding of what the masses classify as the most natural-looking breast shape.

The study also found that women over 40 were most likely to strive for ?perfect looking? breasts over any other age group. Another onset of the research was that contrary to belief; the majority of men surveyed said preferred a natural look to anything else. ?Preconceptions that men prefer an artificial augmented look are false,? the doctors added.

The main takeaway from this is that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with your breasts as they are, but if you did need/want any form of work done in that area, your doctor would be well informed as to what would look aesthetically pleasing.
