The gorgeous picture you see above, from our Christmas craft shoot in the current issue (on sale now!), almost didn’t happen, so busy were we scoffing those delicious, delicately dusted star biscuits. Home-made by our art director Marlene Wessels, the recipe has been passed down through her family for generations, and she’s graciously agreed to pass it on to us! Get practising now, they’ll make the perfect host gift come the Christmas party season.
6 cups of flour
500 grams margarine/butter
2 cups of sugar
Pinch of salt
3 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cinnamon
Mix the butter and sugar well.
Add in the eggs one at a time.
Add in the rest of the ingredients and mix well, preferable using a electric mixer.
Wrap the dough in cling film and put the dough in the fridge for around 30 minutes.
Roll out onto a floured surface, create festive shapes using a cutter or roll little balls and press down with a fork.
Bake for 8-10 minutes on a non-stick baking tray at 180ºC until slightly brown.
Cool on a baking tray and store in an airtight container.
Wrap in brown paper, and tie with a sweet ribbon to create a delicious home-made gift.
