This New dating App Matches You Based On Your Dislikes

‘Coz the haters ‘gonna hate hate hate hate hate…(and love it, apparently)

Without generalising, the first thing we tend to look for in a partner is a shining personality and a good sense of humour (both which are more-often-than-not a challenge to come by). It used to be an unspoken rule that you don’t talk about negative things or the things you don’t like when on a first date – especially if you want a second chance to see the person again. But now, a new app is rejigging what we previously thought about negativity and dating, and it turns out that it’s okay to really really hate something.

Hater publically launches this coming February 8th and, unlike competitor dating apps like Tinder, Hater matches you with your true love based on things that they mutually dislike, and it’s kind of genius (yes, that is Trump below).

Former Goldman Sachs employee and CEO?Brendan Alper is the creator behind Hater, who admitted to The Cut this week that the original idea was actually a comedy sketch; “the more I thought about it, the more I thought ?Hey even though this was a funny idea, it actually makes a lot of sense,'” Alper tells The Cut.

The app works very closely to its direct competitor. Users can swipe up for love, down for hate, right for like, and left for dislike (ooh, take that Tinder!) There are over 2,000 ‘hate topics’ featured on the app including Trump, gluten-free, camping, and Taylor Swift as a person, and eventually it’s hoped that users will be able to input their own dislikes. Whether or not you match with someone is then determined by your shared dislikes.

But is all a bit too gimmicky??Apparently ‘hate’ might be the way forward in the dating world, with recent studies (like this one) proving that?people bond via shared negative attitudes toward others.

And considering the popularity of dating apps (Tinder has over 7 million monthly users alone) among young and old alike, we reckon Hater could be the new Tinder.

Maybe the love of your life hates slow walkers just as much as you do.
