The days of boring, traditional scones are numbered, especially if this man has anything to do with it. Meet Graham Herterich, aka The Cupcake Bloke, whose apple and black pudding creation was recently named Goodall’s Best Scone 2014. Containing pudding made by his cousins in their Longford butcher shop, the scone has garnered a bit of a cult following at his Coppinger Row stall.
After being made redundant two years ago, Graham (who’s a trained chef) started The Cupcake Bloke with his partner, Daithi Kelleher. He credits his experience as a chef with his ability to think up unusual flavours. Aside from the now-famous apple and black pudding, other delicious combinations include smoked salmon with chives, walnut with blue cheese and thyme, and asparagus with parma ham. Every scone is served with a little tub of sauce, specially made to complement each taste.
And for those with a serious sweet tooth, Graham has plenty of treats on offer. With equally adventurous combos (think Shiraz and rosemary cupcakes with chocolate ganache icing) as well as the classics like red velvet, Oreo and chocolate, all tastes are truly catered for.
