This Howth home has been given a bright, airy refurb

With gorgeous views of the sea, the design of this home reflects a coastal palette of whites and soft shades.

Situated in Howth, with its sweeping views of the sea, this home has been transformed to create a bright, airy space. A renovation and extension by Tyler Owens Architects gave the homeowners a much larger kitchen where they could entertain in and enjoy the sea views, while Eilish Rickard Interiors worked on the design for this new space.

“The design approach for the kitchen was both practical and stylish, considering the presence of a furry companion,” Eilish says.

“Stone flooring by Miller Brothers was chosen for its durability and easy maintenance, ensuring it could withstand the daily hustle and bustle. But functionality didn’t mean sacrificing aesthetics.”

Eilish chose a palette of whites and soft hues, with marble countertops one of the standout features of the space.

“It’s a touch of luxury that elevates the space, adding elegance without being ostentatious,” she explains.

“Brass accents from Armac Martin provide a hint of sophistication, complementing the overall design with a subtle shimmer.” The units are by Woodale, while the marble was supplied by Porter.

The living room was designed to be cosy, without taking away from the sea views. “Tall windows frame the sea like living art, flooding the space with natural light and offering uninterrupted vistas of the coastal panorama. To preserve this visual connection with the outdoors, we treated the windows with light linen fabric, allowing the sunlight to filter through while maintaining a sense of privacy and serenity indoors,” Eilish says.

In the bathroom, the layout was reconfigured to maximise its functionality. A large skylight was added to increase natural light in the space, making it feel larger. “To complement this newfound luminosity, we opted for a freestanding bath, finished in a deep rose hue that adds a touch of warmth and elegance to the room.”

Throughout this home, both practicality and elegance have been perfectly balanced, a testament to the collaborative effort between homeowner, architect, and designer – a harmonious fusion of style and functionality.

Eilish has also just launched her spring interiors collection, should you wish to recreate some of this feel into your own home.
