Think Contemporary worked with the homeowners to create a functional yet stylish family home.

A three-storey seafront home in Skerries, Co Dublin, this house had good features, such as a large open plan living, kitchen and dining space, but the owners wanted to elevate the design, while keeping it functional for their family of five.

They brought Think Contemporary on board, an interior architecture and design studio founded by Joanne Kelly and Anthony Buggy.

“The ground floor living area is a large open plan area, but we wanted to create zones within the space,” Joanne explains. “This was created with a central dining space and feature slats which nicely divides the space giving the living room privacy from the kitchen and dining area. Materials were very important in the space, so we introduced a mix of timber, stone and brass to contrast nicely with the bolder colours.”

Worktops from Egan Stone and wooden flooring from Irwin flooring add an organic touch, while the furniture was sourced from Cult Furniture and Kave Home.

On the first floor there is a lounge that looks out over the sea, which was an important room to get right.

“It’s our clients’ favourite space and you can totally see why,” Joanne says. “With stunning views over the sea, our clients wanted to create a space where they could enjoy their passions: music and entertaining. They wanted this space to feel like an upmarket bar, creating a real hospitality vibe.”

The sofa and armchair were sourced from DFS, while the rug is from Rugs.ie. Lighting is from Hicken Lighting, while the pink side table is from April and the Bear and the piano stool is from Woo.Design.

The same luxurious mood was carried through to the main bedroom and ensuite. “Our clients wanted it to feel like a five star hotel. We kept the colours very calm and soothing in this space but really brought the drama with these stunning tiles in the ensuite.” The tiles are from Tile Spex, and the sanitary ware is from Sonas.

It’s a design that has created a cohesive home with spaces to relax, entertain, and cope with the busy demands of family life, but infused with the owners’ personality.
