Irish Fly the Flag at BFAs

Irish Fly the Flag at BFAs

Last night saw Ranelagh’s Simone Rocha and fellow Irish designer JW Anderson walk away victorious from the highly regarded British Fashion Awards. Simone was the winner in the New Establishment Award category, deemed to be the “womenswear or menswear designer that is taking the global industry by storm.” With catwalk shows that seem to stun the critics more and more every year, we think that is a pretty apt description of one of Ireland’s most electrifying talents. Keira Knightley is the latest celebrity to don her dresses on the red carpet.

Meanwhile, JW Anderson was declared the Menswear Designer of the year, with his ready-to-wear line seen as ?instrumental in enhancing men’s fashion in the past year.? The 30-year-old designer was also nominated for Womenswear Designer, but missed out to Erdem Moralioglu.?F1 driver Lewis Hamilton presented his award.

And in case you weren’t feeling proud enough of this little island, Dublin-born Duncan Campbell won this year’s Turner Prize for his film It for Others. Glasgow-based Campbell was awarded €25000, as well as a place in the history books.

Cara Delevingne walked away with Model of the Year, surprising nobody, while Victoria Beckham was awarded Brand of the Year. Emma Watson, an eternal style crush in Image.ie, was honoured for her work in promoting British fashion. For a full list of winners see below.
