Oscar de la Renta dies

Today marks a very sad day for the world of fashion as we learn of revered designer Oscar de la Renta‘s passing. A firm favourite among the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker and Amal Clooney (the man behind the wedding dress of the year), de la Renta died aged 82 after a longstanding battle with cancer, a publicist at his fashion house confirmed.

The American designer’s passing comes just weeks after he had appointed a successor to replace him at his eponymous fashion house – Peter Copping, formerly of Nina Ricci. Considered the Godfather of American fashion, de la Renta worked right up until his death, dressing Mrs Clooney in September along with the first lady, Michelle Obama and Emma Watson, among many others.

Famed for his red carpet wonders, Oscar managed to stay current and relevant throughout his career that spanned six decades. Without a shadow of a doubt, he was the man to go to when glamour was the order of the day.
