The Magic of Christmas Ads

We may not be quite reaching for the baubles just yet, but the beautiful John Lewis ad last week certainly boosted our Christmas cheer considerably, and we’re happy to admit we’ve accounted for more than one of those nearly eleven million views. And while we’re on the subject, how cute is Romeo Beckham in the new Burberry Christmas ad?

John Lewis #MontyThePenguin

And there is truly nothing to thaw the pre-Christmas denial quite like the heartwarming vision of the gorgeous little girl from Kelloggs cornflakes ad, or the steady bells of the Coca Cola ?Holidays are coming? ad. We take a look at the cr’me de la cr’me of Christmas advertisements over the past few decades.

Boots #SpecialBecause

This made us a bit teary, we just weren’t prepared for the emotions involved. Merry Christmas to nurses and mums everywhere?

Guinness Christmas

Even though it’s a few years old, this Guinness Christmas ad always reminds us of the beautiful silence that descends around Ireland when it snows and makes us immensely proud to be Irish.

ESB Going Home

This ad epitomizes the feeling of returning to your mammy at Christmas and the all the relief/cosiness that is involved in returning to your consistently warm family home. Did we leave the immersion on?

Kellogg’s Christmas

Frankly, it wouldn’t be Christmas without this little blonde haired cutie in the pink onesie sneaking out to Santa. It takes us back to the days we spent totally convinced that if we stayed up late enough we might also have a run-in with the man himself.

Spar Christmas Trees

We love the shots of the lonely Christmas tree floating off on a packed DART in this, but mostly we? just love the gorgeous vocals of Gemma Hayes and Jape covering The Raveonettes? ‘The Christmas Song’.

John Lewis The Bear and the Hare

John Lewis certainly didn’t let us down last year either, with their lovely textured animation of the hare who waited all Christmas season for its bear friend to wake up. Is there anything more adorable than interspecies friends?
