The Barbie movie, The Eras tour, girl math and girl dinner all marked 2023 as the year of Girl Culture – but is the movement a help or a hindrance for women?

It’s official: Last year was the year of Girl Culture. We had the throngs of women dressed in pink shouting “Hi Barbie” at each other as they emerged from the now Oscar-nominated bubblegum pink film about their childhood doll. There were the sequined dresses worn and homemade friendship bracelets given out at Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, where middle-aged women and little girls all sang in unison to their favourite romantic pop songs and bouncy girl...
