‘Mum if a bomb lands, will it kill us? Will we die?’

This is the question from her 10-year-old son that made one mother leave her home and her husband with her son and her dog. A team of volunteers from Wicklow helped her to travel safely. Colette Talbot tells that story and speaks to IMAGE from Ukraine while delivering aid to refugee camps and orphanage.

At the Polish border, with her team of volunteers Wicklow woman Colette Talbot met a Ukrainian mum called Vita whose 10-year-old son, Mykyta, asked her a question as they walked to school.  “Mum if a bomb lands, will it kill us, will we die?” This chilling question prompted Vita to flee with her son and dog, while her husband remains in Kyiv to fight. The Irish team has since helped with travel and accommodation for Vita,...
