The singer is under investigation for allegedly striking an employee during a disagreement at her home on Monday night.
Britney spears – the same woman the internet rushed to defend just mere weeks ago – is now under investigation for an alleged attack on staff.
According to reports, police officers are believed to have attended the singer’s home in southern California on Monday night, after the staff member in question reported the dispute to local authorities. Although no one was injured, deputies took statements at the scene which they would later hand over to prosecutors for consideration, the Ventura county sheriff’s office said. No further details were given.
Spears’ lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, has vehemently rejected the accusations though, labelling them as “overblown sensational tabloid fodder” and claiming that the reports are nothing more than a case of ‘he said, she said’. “Anyone can make an accusation, but this should have been closed immediately,” he stated, later adding that there was “no striking and obviously no injury whatsoever”.
Currently embroiled in very public, very ugly, legal proceedings against her family, the allegations come amid the performer’s ongoing conservatorship battle with her father… and safe to say that interest in the singer’s life has never been greater. First rising to fame as a teen pop sensation in the late 90s, she’s been in the public eye ever since but details of the harrowing conditions she’s been living under for the past 13-years have only reached mainstream media in the past few months.
The subject of a recent New York Times investigative documentary, the 75-minute Britney special aired on US streaming platform Hulu back in February of this year. Causing quite a stir amongst fans, it sparked concerns over a number of different topics with the #FreeBritney movement gaining rapid traction as a result.
Things didn’t seem to be moving in a positive direction for the Toxic singer, but good news finally came last week as it was revealed that Spears’ father had agreed to relinquish control of her $60m estate. Responding to his daughter’s petition for his suspension, Mr Spears announced his decision to step down – though he gave no definite timeline as to when he would do so.
