Katei Hopkins has hit the headlines for her incendiary behaviour once again, this time for flouting quarantine rules over in Australia… and bragging about it on Instagram. Yeah, not the best idea.
Not only has she been axed from the upcoming season of Australia’s Big Brother VIP, but authorities have confirmed that Katie Hopkins will also be deported for deliberately disobeying the country’s strict hotel quarantine rules too.
In the country to appear on Seven Network’s reality Big Brother programme, Hopkins arrived in Oz earlier last week. Immediately placed in a two-week mandatory hotel quarantine, the controversial British commentator was very forthcoming about her opinions on the situation – uploading a video to Instagram in which she joked about answering the door to people delivering her meals “naked with no mask on”.
According to Australian regulations, all arrivals into the country must complete a two-week quarantine in a government-mandated hotel. People in quarantine are not permitted to open their door unless to receive meals and even then, they must wait 30 seconds after food has been delivered before doing so and must wear a mask the entire time.
Sparking widespread outrage with the video and her comments about lockdown being “the greatest hoax in human history”, Home Affairs minister Karen Andrews confirmed that the former Apprentice contestant would be deported for her “appalling” behaviour.
“It’s appalling that this individual behaved the way that she did and she will be leaving,” the minister told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
“We will be getting her out of the country as soon as we can arrange that. The fact that she was out there boasting about breaching quarantine was just appalling.
“It was a slap in the face for all those Australians who are currently in lockdown and it’s just unacceptable behaviour,” she finished.
Rubbing salt in an already very deep wound, Hopkins’ comments come after government last week announced that they would be halving the number of Australian citizens and permanent residents allowed to return to the country down to just 3,000. Currently, more than 34,000 Australians remain stranded overseas, so safe to say people were less than impressed that her visa was ever approved in the first place.
Since terminating all ties with the far-right media personality, Big Brother producers also condemned Hopkins’ actions with the show announcing that she will not feature in the upcoming season as a result of her behaviour.
