The bank holiday weather was less than enviable and I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it doesn’t sound like things are going to improve much this week as frost is supposedly on the way.
Giving an update on what the weather will look like this week, it’s very much a mixed bag with the national forecaster saying that there will be hail, frost and scattered showers, along with a few sunny spells towards the latter end of the week too.
Here’s what the next few days have in store according to Met Éireann:
Today: “Today will be cool with sunny spells. Showers of rain or hail in Ulster, Connacht and west Munster early this morning will extend to all areas by early afternoon and will continue for the rest of the day, some heavy. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees with light to moderate north to northwest winds.”
Tonight: “Early tonight, showers will die out in most areas and will become confined to coastal areas of Ulster and north Connacht. Clear spells in most areas. But a little rain or drizzle may develop on the south coast overnight. Lowest temperatures of -2 and +2 degrees with frost developing. Some patches of mist or fog may form also.”
Thursday: “Thursday will continue cool with sunny spells. Scattered showers of rain or hail in the north and northwest will extend southwards to most areas in the afternoon, some heavy and a few possibly thundery. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees with light to moderate northerly breezes.”
Friday will be mostly cool, though conditions will stay mainly dry and sunny. However, rain will develop overnight, spreading northeastwards over the country with lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees.
As for this weekend, temperatures will rise, but unfortunately, the rain won’t let up to allow us to enjoy it. Saturday morning will start off with some heavy showers which will spread over Munster and Connacht overnight, while Sunday will bring some bright and sunny spells along with it before heavy showers develop once again.
Not quite the forecast we were hoping for, but at least we’ll have plenty of conversation fodder… we Irish love talking about the weather.
