Gavin and Stacey’s Ruth Jones takes to the stage as mother superior in the opening night of the award-winning production of Sister Act: The Musical at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.

Comedy writer and actress Ruth Jones (co-creator and star of Gavin and Stacey) has swapped Barry Island to join the Sisterhood as Mother Superior in Sister Act in Dublin, which runs until 24 February 2024.

A host of well known faces including Jennifer Zamparelli and her daughter Florence, Martin King and Jenny McCarthy, weather presenters Audrey McGrath and Deric Hartigan, Rory O’Neill, James Patrice Butler and his father Jim, as well as Fionnuala Jones and Paul Ryder were in attendance to see Ruth take on the role at the musical’s opening night.

After delighting half a million people in London and on tour across the UK & Ireland, the nuns – including West End star Landi Oshinowo as diva-in-disguise Deloris van Cartier – were back in their habits and rocking the pews for the opening night at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.

Based on the iconic movie, this sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music tells the hilarious story of the disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody, she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent. Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.
