Weekend Guide: 6 of the best events happening around Ireland

Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s a little bit late this year, or are just looking for something different to get up to this weekend, we’ve rounded up some of the best events on the agenda for the weekend ahead…

Sive at the Gaiety Theatre

Running throughout February, the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin

Gaiety Productions presents John B Keane’s classic masterpiece, Sive. This theatre production tells the story of greed and bitterness, of a scheming matchmaker and a resentful woman, forcing a young girl to marry a much, much older man.

Sister Act at the Bord Gáis

Until 24 February, Bord Gáis Energy Theatre

A brand new production of the Broadway and UK award-winning musical Sister Act direct from London, Ruth Jones (star of Gavin and Stacey) will join the Sisterhood as Mother Superior alongside West End star Landi Oshinowo, as diva-in-disguise Deloris van Cartier.

Borderline Festival

15&16 February, Workman’s, Dublin

Showcasing the finest in forward-facing music from Ireland and abroad across two nights in the heart of Dublin, Borderline is a celebration of creativity. Acts set to perform include Cardinals, Enola Gay, Miso Extra and more.

An intimate piano recital with Jamie Duffy

16 February, Newbridge House & Farm

An amazing opportunity to see 22-year-old musician/songwriter/pianist Jamie Duffy live in concert, the genre-bending talent will perform in the Red Room, with its opulence, grandeur and dramatic backdrop on the recently restored Erard piano.

Swiftogeddon – The Taylor Swift Club Night

17 February, The Grand Social, Dublin

The ultimate Galentine’s celebration, Swiftogeddon returns to The Grand Social for a night dedicated to worshipping at the altar of Taylor Swift. Expect non-stop Swift all night: deep cuts, extended mixes, fan favourites and all the hits.

The Gallery Café artistic season launch

From 18 February, The Gallery Café, Gort, Galway

To launch the 2024 artistic season The Gallery Café, Gort will host their first exhibition by artists Leonie King and Sioban Piercy. The two Galway artists have lectured in the Art and Design Department at ATU, and exhibited together as members of the AKIN Artist Collective.
