Music festivals, Pride runs, improv theatre and more events happening around Ireland from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 June...
Cork Midsummer Festival
Until 23 June, various venues around Cork, more info here
Exhilarating theatre, dance and music, orchestra, visual art, circus performances, trailblazing ideas, joyful spectacle and so much more await at Cork Midsummer Festival.
Ciseach
Until 22 June, Project Arts Centre, Dublin, more info here
Ciseach is a pulsating contemporary incantation weaving together a tapestry of dance, rhythm, live music and voice that seeks to rekindle our broken relationship with the land. Looking to the body, to the collective, in search of a new path as the ground beneath us yields, this stirring new work is an embodied manifesto – urging us to re-member, to reconnect with our past, with nature and with each other.
Dublin Pride Run
21 June, Phoenix Park, more info here
Dublin Pride Run isn’t your ordinary 5K race. It’s a celebration of movement, energy and physical activity that champions inclusivity, identity, self expression and queerness in an open, friendly, safe space where you can connect with others in the LGBTQ+ community, friends, family and loved ones.
Beyond the Pale
21-23 June, Glendalough Estate, Wicklow, more info here
In my humble opinion, one of the best festivals in Ireland, Beyond the Pale returns to the wild woodlands and stunning surrounds of Glendalough Estate for three days of music, arts and food. The line-up includes Jessie Ware, Alvvays, Romy, Rachael Lavelle, and a whole lot more, as well as the incredible foodie offering, Beyond the Plate.
Soda Blonde
22 June, Róisín Dubh, Galway, more info here
A gig celebrating 20 years of the Róisín Dubh, Soda Blonde’s unique alt-pop sound is one to be relished. Their second LP, Big Dreams, was just nominated for the 2023 Choice Music Prize and will have you frolicking, swaying, and on your feet all evening. This show comes ahead of their biggest headline performance to date in the National Concert Hall next month, playing alongside the National Symphony Orchestra.
Rammstein
23 June, The RDS, Dublin, more info here
Rammstein are once again packing their impressive stage set and awe-inspiring pyrotechnics into their trucks and hitting the road. The millions of people who have attended the band’s sold-out shows in recent years can attest to the fact that their shows are unique in their nature, scale and quality. In 2024, just in time for Rammstein’s 30th anniversary, fans old and new will once again have the opportunity to experience the band’s gigantic show live.
Good Sex
Until 23 June, The Everyman, Cork, more info here
Written by Dead Centre with the inimitable Emilie Pine (author of one of my favourite books Notes to Self), Good Sex is a sublimely funny love story for a loveless age. Each night, two actors will appear onstage and try to answer a question: How do you have sex on stage? How do you even have sex? Each show will feature two new performers to tell a story of desire, betrayal and loneliness.
